The Wandering Heathen

Today I Lounge

It’s hard to be depressed in a hammock. It arrived today and I promptly put it together, ditched my shirt, and blissfully roasted in the late morning sun.

In Edinburgh, I would lie in the grass in Inverleith Park, listening to the crack of Cricket bats and enjoying the smells of those little disposable grills that suddenly appeared with the sun. But here in the world’s anus, Houston, TX, I would be violated by fire ants, spiders, and quite possibly a snake or two.

So, hammock it is.

I’ve taken meetings in it, drifted off to that liminal space between consciousness and sleep, and when I’m done here, I’ll grab a book and go back out there. I’m trying not to buy any new books until I’ve cleared my TBR list, so today I’ll start The Price of Fear by Miles Lyon. It’s supposed to be some solid grimdark.

Next in the queue is The Hellbound Heart by Clive Barker. I still need to read The Terror and The Rouse, as well.

This nagging bicep injury is still keeping me out of the weight room. I tried again today and it didn’t go well. I suppose I should spend more time on the treadmill in the meantime, but not today. Today I lounge.

No plans for the weekend. I have to speak at a Marine Corps birthday event at work next week. Still don’t know how I got suckered into that, but so it goes. Then, it’s off to Mexico City for some good food and Lucha Kingdom.
